“For this is our God, our God forever and ever;

He will be our guide even to death.”

Psalms 48:14

 Recently we flew to St. Louis.  It was a cold winter day and the meteorologist was calling for a winter storm watch that evening.  When we left Richmond the sun was shining and a few scattered clouds floated in the sky.  As we rose into the sky after changing planes at Pittsburg the threat of the approaching storm seemed closer.   It wasn’t long until we were totally encased in thick, dark, foggy clouds.  I kept peering out my window at nothing.  The plane cruised on with our destination set on its radar screen.  The unseen wind channels jostled the plane as it journeyed on its scheduled flight.  There was no moon or ground lights to guide the way.  A few minutes before landing we dropped out of the clouds, cross over the river and landed at the St. Louis airport in blinding snow.

I don’t understand what happens in the cockpit of a plane but a trained pilot can depend totally on radar and instruments to land the aircraft exactly in the middle of a strip of asphalt.  Amazing!   When I board the plane I am putting the future of my life in the hands of an unknown pilot.  I trust him to guide the way and get me safely through my journey.

What a relief it is to know that when I accepted Jesus as my Savior I turned the controls of my plane over to a trained, skilled pilot.   Sometimes my flight is smooth and the view of the sun shining is stunning.  Other times I am totally encased in the thick, dark, foggy clouds of a storm. Many times I am jostled by winds of temptation that try to knock me off my course.  My city of destination is heaven; I have a very important appointment there. At just the right moment I will break out of the clouds, cross the river and land exactly and precisely on a street of gold in the city of life.  Amazing!  My future is in the hands of a well-known pilot.  I meet him at the cross.  He signed my passport in blood; my identity cannot be forged. I trust him to guide the way and guide me safely through my journey.
