November 5, 2008 The Day After… Today I am sad. My feelings
are not based on race, gender or which political party won the election. I am
sad about the moral fiber of our nation. Let me explain. Our nation is founded on
Judea-Christian values and principles. Our long standing motto has been “In
God We Trust” but as the years go by we are straying further and further from
the truth to now their blatant defiance of God and His Word. I am sad that integrity no
longer matters. Our new vice-president is known for “stretching the truth”.
The media jokes “it’s just the way he is.” How if after all the years in
the Senate, and on the campaign trail, you can’t believe what he says and he
is consistently wrong on facts, are we to now trust him in the White House as VP
and as potential President? I am sad that when we
question a person’s character it is labeled smear. The words a person speaks
reveals his heart but the friends he chooses reveals his character. If our
future President has surrounded himself with associations, mentors and advisors
that totally undermine the values of peace, freedom, and responsible citizenship
how can we trust the cabinet and officials he will surround himself within the
White House. I am sad that the rights of
the innocent unborn are further compromised. Murder has been wrong since the
beginning of time. Under no circumstance does God give the mother the right to
take life. The possible appointment of liberal judges and justices continues to
challenge the sanctity of life. I am sad because a man’s
honor no longer matters. The President-elect did not even have the back-bone to
stand by his word on financing the election and ended up spending more than any
candidate in history. How do I know he will stand up to pressure in a time of
national crisis? I am sad because a
hard-working, decent, ordinary mom who
has climbed the political ladder but is not a part of the good-ole-boy
establishment, has become the victim of media belittlement and ridicule from the
left-wing liberal elitist because of her faith, moral and family values. I am sad that our nation has
chosen a President who values the support and standards of I am sad that we no longer
have a clear perspective of right and wrong. We wink and blink at the blatant
fraud of Acorn and voter registration. I am stunned that a candidate with clear
connections and support to Acorn is given the awesome task of leading our
nation. I am sad that a man known
for having the most liberal voting record in the senate now sets the standard
for our nation and is given almost god-like adoration. Scripture says that God
holds the “hearts” of kings in his hand. He sets up and tears down kings and
kingdoms to accomplish his purposes. My God is bigger than all my fears and
greater than man’s dreams. And guess what! It
does not depend on the election outcome or people in office. By Pat Hertzler Scripture references:
The
Week After….
Obama is now our President-elect.
He will be my President and He will be your President.
As Christians and citizens of the country we have several mandates and
responsibilities. First and foremost
we are to pray for our leaders and those who have authority over us.
Pray God’s mercy, wisdom and protect over them.
Pray that they will be God honoring and allow God’s authority to rule
their lives. As Christians we are to
be advocates of peace, sanctity of life, morality and marriage between one man
and one woman. We can pray for our
nation that God’s Word will be spread in truth, souls will be saved, and that
we can continue to live in peace. Government
laws and constitutions will not change person’s lives, end immorality, or turn
hate into love. Only the cleansing
blood of Jesus Christ can do that and that is our mandate.
Another mandate for us is to live in peace and quietness, with godliness
and dignity. (I Timothy 2: 1-4) This
is good and it pleases God.
We are to respect and honor our leaders.
We may disagree when they are wrong, but we are to do it in a way that is
respectful, considerate and peaceful. We
have seen how belittlement, intimidation, smear, false accusations, gossip, name
calling, jealousy, pride, and discord reduce a lame-duck leader to late-night
comedy, talk-show scorn, cartoon ridicule, and candidate fodder.
May God help us not to spread false fear and gossip but to pray for Obama
to succeed and lead with integrity, honor and dignity. It’s
been said, “Man’s greatest fears are God’s opportunities! By
