2.    Enviro-Blend Tall Fescue Blend --Pennington Seed

A blend of three different turf type tall fescues, Enviro-Blend produces lower and slower growing grass plants requiring less mowing, thus generating fewer clippings.  The lawn needs less watering and irrigation after establishment.  Enviro-Blend establishes fast and produces a dark green, fine bladed, tense turf.  University and private tests indicate improved disease resistance, especially to "Brown Patch".  Its resistance to insects and drought are two other features homeowners will welcome.  Another benefit to the homeowner is that each Enviro-Blend seed has been coated with the Penkoted seed treatment.  The Penkoted treatment is an exclusive Pennington Seed process which consists of completely coating each seed with a liquid formula of active ingredients, to stimulate deeper root growth.  The coating is time-released into the soil as needed to help protect each seedling from soil born diseases and insects.  The coating also makes the seed less attractive to birds.

Seeding Rate:

  • New Lawns: 8-10 lbs./1000 sq. ft. or 200 lbs./acre for new lawns
  • Overseeding: 3-5 lbs/1000 sq. ft.

3.     Plantation  --Pennington Seed

*This is fast becoming our #1 grass seed!

Plantation , experimental designation Pennington 1901, is a high performance, dark green, fine textured tall fescue.  It is a cool season perennial grass that develops an extensive fibrous root system.  Plantation is recommended for use on golf course fairways and roughs, sporting fields, parks and premium home lawns.  Plantation is suited for use by the turf professional as well as the discriminating homeowner.

Sowing  and Establishment Recommendations:

Sow Plantation turf-type tall fescue in sun or shade in Spring or Fall.  Mid-summer sowing is not recommended except for areas of dense shade that can be well watered.  Lime soil to 6.0 pH and follow soil test recommendations for fertilization.    Maintain adequate soil moisture for proper germination.  Under ideal conditions, germination may begin in as few as nine days.  Full germination may take up to 21 days.  First mowing is suggested when plants reach approximately 7.5 cm.

Seeding Rates:

  • New Lawns:  30 to 50 grams of Plantation per square meter for new lawns or turf areas.
  • Overseeding:  25 grams of Plantation per square meter.
