For Megan Meadows, the transition from part-time Christmas help to shop owner has been a lot of work, but well worth the effort. “I love working with animals, and I love the contact with lots of different people,” she said. Perhaps more importantly, Meadows — a working mom — wanted to keep the emphasis on mom. “I wanted a place with a good family atmosphere.” Pet Quarters offers full-service grooming for dogs, cats and other small pets. “We have some customers who bring us their rabbits and guinia pigs,” she said. Other services include a natural flea dip, overnight and daytime boarding, even scheduled playtime for kennel “guests.” She encourages clients to supply their pet’s preferred food. “We have food here, but often a change in diet can upset a pet’s stomach.” She explained that sometimes just being placed in a kennel is tramatic enough for a pet. “We encourage people to bring their pets’ favorite toys or blankets,” she said. “That makes us a little different from other kennels in the county.” Meadows said having a pet’s favorite toy or blanket makes the pet more comfortable — especially for longer stays.
