Love
Today was a particularly difficult day in our family. Gene and I were traveling
home from
Harrisonburg
after spending the day with family. It
was 7 PM as we turned and headed east on I-64. A full moon crept up over the
mountains in full radiant glory. But tonight there seemed to be something
special about this moon. It was huge
and felt so close. It didn’t seem
to be in out there in moon orbit but dangling from space in the atmosphere where
the clouds normally reside. The moon
beams danced off the front of our car (Gene noticed it first).
For an hour we traveled mesmerized by the glory, splendor and closeness
of God guiding us home.

We reflected on the moon.
- It
does not have a light of it’s own but reflects the light of the sun.
- It
shows the way in the darkest night but does not squelch the light of the
stars.
- It
controls the ebb and flow of the tides.
- It
remained steadfast even when trees, hills or buildings blocked us from
seeing its light or beauty.
- When
we turned south, it shone its light on us from behind. (I had to look
back to see it).
God showed us His tender love, compassion and faithfulness
through the created beauty of the moon.
When we walked in the door after arriving home the red light was blinking on the
answering machine. I pushed the play
button. This is what I heard….
“Hey, Pat, this is Donna. I
am calling for the (ladies) Sunday school class.
We just wanted to call you this morning and tell you that we love you
beyond measure and that we are thinking about you and praying for you.
We just want you to be feeling the love and knowing that we are with you.
Although we don’t look forward to today and tonight, we know that God
is in control and that He has your best interest at heart and we will get
through this together.
I just want to hold the phone up and let everyone shout out something to
you.… ‘We love you, Pat’.
We love you so much, Pat, and maybe some of us can see you this
afternoon. We do love you, we love
you both."
I
wept.
God
had spoken His love.
